Christal Berchin attended University of Hawaii and graduated from Northwood University. She danced with Akiko Modern Dance Company of Hawaii for Three years. In 1980, she Joined the Navy and became involved in fitness. She began to study aerobics, certified IDEA, ACE, ACSM, AFAA, AEA, Institute Aerobic Reattach 4th level Master Trainer and USN Bureau Master Fitness trainer. She was introduced to Pilates in 1997 is Certified Silver Sneaker.
Christal was trained in Pilates by Stott, Plestar, and Ron Fletcher study work. Christal also did studies in Pilates rehab and has worked with Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation clinics.
With Rehability and injury prevention experience, she continues to work privately as a personal trainer for a wide variety of clients. She also teachers Pilates mat, Reformer, Cadillac,and Chair pilates since 1998.
Christal has successfully rehabilitated many patients and athletes who had failed at therapy in more traditional orthopedic and sports medicine facilities. Christal emphasizes treating the entire body, as well as specific symptoms. Quality therapy must acknowledge the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the whole person. A one on one personalized program is developed to meet desired goals using a variety of methods including Pilates, joint mobilization, fascial mobilization, muscle energy technique, neuromuscular re education, progressive stabilization, muscle energy technique, neuromuscular re-education, progressive stabilization training, functional training, and modalities.
Chronic lower back pain, joint pain, scoliosis, sciatica, degenerative and herniated discs, cardiac stroke, all can benefit from Pilates by re-training the neuromuscular system to effectively mobilize and support the spine.
Pilates is an exceptionally beneficial adjunct to the rehabilitation process of physical therapy patients. it is also an excellent means for athletes to enhance their performance. Pilates is not just a good workout, it is a balance between strength and flexibility, therapy and fitness.
